Update: October (and September) 2008
Posted October 2, 2008
The brisk fall air has begun to creep into Central Virginia (free AC, as Brian likes to note) so it must be time for Sons of Bill to hit the road again. After some serious summer touring, September was a relatively easy month for Lil’ Debbie (our trusted Ford Econoline Chariot of Rock). All that is about to change as we pump her full of 4 dollar gas and hit the asphalt in October. But first, let’s review some brief highlights of the past month.
September ended with a full scale assault on the District of Columbia. Those of you who missed the Rock and Roll Hotel shindig on September 27 have surely spent the past week floundering in the darkest depths of regret. We understand: twelve blocks is a long way to the nearest Metro Station, but you knew it would be an all night, sweaty, peel-the-paint-off-the-walls rock and roll party. You should’ve known better. We’d like to thank the great crowd who showed up to rock with us and Six Day Bender. After playing so many opening sets recently it’s a great feeling to get to spread your wings a little in front of slobbering mad rabble of dedicated SoB’s.
Speaking of opening acts, we had the pleasure last month to open for one of our heros in the songwriting world, the esteemed Mr Robert Earl Keen, Jr. We played two oustanding shows with “Robert Keen, Robert Keen” and all had such blast that we’ve decided to hook up again for a run through the Carolinas in October. If you live near Charlotte, Greensboro or Greenville, be ready for a Country Rock train wreck to roll through your town beginning October 15th.
Richmonders had a tough month in September. Sons of Bill had to reschedule a show in our state capital and, on top of that, Mother Nature (in the form of Hurricane Ike) conspired to keep local boys Wrinkle Neck Mules from taking the stage in the Old Dominion. But don’t worry, relief is on the way. THE TOAD’S PLACE SHOW HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED! Sons of Bill and Wrinkle Neck Mules will now converge on Toad’s Place on October 11th. We thank you so much if you bought tickets or helped promote the first show and we apologize profusely that it had to be postponed. The wait is over! Get your tickets, gather your friends and lace up your drinking shoes. October 11th is when it all goes down.
Those of you up North may be getting lonely hearing about all of this fun we’re having all over the South. Do not despair! October 24th Sons of Bill with be making one of their fabled bi-(sometimes tri-)annual ventures into Gotham City itself. That’s right, as part of the CMJ Music Marathon, Sons of Bill will be rocking the National Underground in Downtown Manhatten (map here). We don’t get to NYC so often these days so if you get your mail delivered in or around the Big Apple, make it your beeswax to be there on the 24th. We guarantee you won’t regret it. Unless of course your car gets the boot put on it or you get lost on the Subway and end up in Jersey City. But you’re all New Yorkers by now, that kind of shit only happens to wide-eyed yokels in for the weekend (like us).
We’re adding tour dates all the time (including our second ever trip to Florida in early November) so keep an eye on the calendar to make sure you don’t miss a chance to have your faced rocked in your own hometown. We’ll hope to see you all soon.
Until the leaves turn,
Sons of Bill
